■ Find duplicate eBooks stored in different formats
If you have a sizeable e-book collection, say a few thousand titles, chances are you have downloaded the same book multiple times. For simple situations, you can find some duplicates (e.g with this
Calibre plugin) comparing book attributes:
- Fuzzy-compare them for similar author and title attributes (or ISBN)
- Check books byte-by-byte to discover 100% identical files
Unfortunately in practice author/title attributes are rarely exact, ISBN might be missing, and the same book may be stored as EPUB and PDF (or MOBI, AZW3, FB2, DJVU and what have you) so it cannot be found by binary comparison. There are no tools to discover and cleanup your ebook collection accurately... or there weren't up to now!
Zabkat's i-DeClone is a duplicate search and cleanup tool that is very strong discovering similar files (e.g. duplicate movies). Now the latest version 1.90 adds to its arsenal a world first AI algorithm that can find duplicate eBooks by comparing their text content. Remember guys, you saw it here first!
Please download i-DeClone free trial and scan your ebook collection following this simple procedure. No duplicate ebook will be left undiscovered. Then you can decide to keep only books of one particular type (extension MOBI/PDF/EPUB/DJVU), keep the smaller size book, or whatever makes sense to your collector's instinct.
Some points to keep in mind about the discovery process:
- i-DeClone examines the text content only. Differences e.g. in contained pictures are ignored.
- Picture books (e.g. PDFs that have no text) will be ignored
- A free book search and preview plugin is required to access the contained text (separate download)
- If you have lots of PDF books, the scan will be slower, but you can let it work unattended.
